8th Annual Cascadia Insight Dialogue Retreat
With Mary Burns and Nicola Redfern
May 15 - 23, 2018
Insight Dialogue is an interpersonal meditation practice that brings the mindfulness of traditional Buddhist meditation into our interactions with others in order to awaken together.
In this year’s retreat, we will be invited to take a deep dive into the Dhamma through a meticulous look at how our sense of self and of other is constructed and the way social narratives inform our sense of who we are. This framework supports our recent years of retreat practice at Cascadia where we inquired into the personal and societal dimensions of confusion that fuel both our own suffering and the suffering in the world.
To pursue this investigation, we will be focusing on the teaching of the five aggregates of clinging, one of the Buddha’s fundamental teachings on liberation, which exposes the illusion of a separate self. Step-by-step guidance will be provided to make this teaching accessible to those approaching the aggregates for the first time. For those quite familiar with the aggregates, this retreat summons a challenge to delve in direct experience as grounding for a deepening understanding of this essential Buddhist teaching. Attention will be placed on cultivating continuous practice such that awareness not only permeates our formal practice but also flows into every part of the day and from there into our daily lives beyond retreat.
